What is heat power?
Heat power uses already existing heat sources and turns that heat into clean electricity. Heat power primarily comes from two sources: geothermal heat power, which harnesses heat from the earth to make electricity, and industrial heat power, which turns waste heat into electricity.
Why do we need it?
Did you know that just under one billion people lack access to electricity in the world today. Energy demand is estimated to rise by ~30% up until 2040. More than 75% of the electricity supply today comes from coal, oil & gas and nuclear plants. About 15% comes from hydro power, 4% from wind power and less than 2% comes from solar power.
In 2015, the UN together with more than 190 countries agreed and committed to the 17 sustainable development goals. Goal #7 is to "Ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all".
We need to speed up the transition from fossil fuels to sustainable energy. We need a sustainable baseload that works regardless of whether or not the wind is blowing or the sun is shining - an energy source that is space efficient, has high energy density, and that doesn't emit greenhouse gases.
Heat power can provide a sustainable energy baseload and has the potential to be the largest contributor of renewable energy that would enable us to reach #SDG7 and reverse climate change. Let's use it!
